The 2014 Gathering of The Friends of Tilling took place on Saturday 6th September in Rye. The Friends met at the railway station before walking up the hill en masse to Benson's grave at Rye Cemetery. Afterwards a light luncheon at The Mermaid Inn was followed by a reading of "Humble Soup" - a new Mapp & Lucia short story written especially for us by Tom Holt. It was read wonderfully by the actor, broadcaster and Friend of Tilling, Nickolas Grace. As evening fell, the Friends regrouped at The Mermaid in their evening finery for dinner by candlelight - hitum of course! After a sumptuous dinner our President Gyles Brandreth hosted our annual Tilling Quiz and afterwards we were entertained with un po-di-musica by Michael Winwood on the piano. The Moonlight Sonata (or part of it) featured.
